Panel discussion on “The Presidential Candidates and the Future of US Foreign Policy in the Middle East”. A mediated discussion on the future of US-Middle East foreign policy under a McCain or Obama administration. Sitting on the panel will be Middle East and US policy experts primarily from the University of Wisconsin.

Professors Uli Schamiloglu, Nadav Shelef, Jeremi Suri, Joe Elder and a spokesperson from the McCain campaign headquarters will discuss in detail their views of what an administration under each candidate will mean for US-Middle East relations and the domestic repercussions such policies could have here in the United States. Each panelist will give a statement and rebuttal of possible US-Middle Eastern foreign policy should one or the other candidate be elected. Following the commentaries there will be extensive and encouraged audience questions and answers.

The UW’s Middle Eastern Studies Program (MESP) is happy to be sponsoring this event, and to have the co-sponsorship of the Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE), the Madison Council on Foreign Affairs (MCFR) and Global Studies as co-sponsors.

The event will be videotaped for future viewing. For more information contact the Middle East Studies Program Office at 265-6583 or visit www.mideast.wisc.edu.
