Mental Health Library Campaign

Palestinian child’s drawing during the Al-Aqsa Intifada (GCMHP)

We are launching a project to help Rafah build a Mental Health Library of professional books requested by providers. This is a critical need: the Gaza Strip — one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with two thirds of the population refugees and half younger than 16 years — has witnessed extreme forms of violence and suffering from the Israeli occupation and military operations.

Our contact in Rafah is Manal Awad, Director of the Women’s Empowerment Project at the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP). GCMHP works to provide comprehensive community mental health services — therapy, training and research — for three target groups: children, women, and victims of organized violence. For more information on their work, see

  • Mental Health Clinics
  • Research on children and trauma, women and families, and victims of torture.
  • Child therapy for anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), behavioral disorders, bedwetting, and nightmares.
