MRSCP General Meeting
Madison-Rafah Sister City Project

Olympia-Rafah Sister City Project Presentation
Sunday, May 7, 2006
Potluck 5:30 to 7:00 pm
Discussion 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Serena Becker and Rochelle Gause of the Olympia-Rafah Sister City Project , along with Swedish activist Johan Genberg, will present their recent experiences in Gaza and the West Bank as part of a national tour. Serena and Rochelle recently spent four months working in Rafah, Gaza for ORSCP, and in the West Bank with the International Solidarity Movement. They were inspired to go in response to the tragic death of their friend Rachel Corrie, who was killed in Rafah on March 16, 2003 by an Israeli military bulldozer while defending a Palestinian home from illegal demolition.

Serena and Rochelle carry on Rachel's vision of promoting and fostering friendships between the people of Olympia, Washington and Rafah, Palestine. Since its founding in 2003, ORSCP has worked to strengthen cross-cultural awareness and understanding, international cooperation, justice, and peace. Rochelle and Serena are both graduates of Evergreen State College in Olympia, with a focus in political economy and social justice. Rochelle holds a masters degree in environmental studies.

Johan Genberg has just returned from four months in Palestine, working mainly in Tel Rumeida, Hebron with the International Solidarity Movement and the Tel Rumeida Project. Johan holds a Bachelors degree if foreign languages from the University of Stockholm.

The event will be held at the home of one of our members. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to rafahsistercity@yahoo.com for directions. If you are coming to the potluck, please bring a dish to pass.

You can also hear Serena and Rochelle live on Monday, May 8 between 8 and 9 am on WORT's "The Morning Buzz" with host Linda Jameson, 89.9 FM.
